ICL Guide

ICL cost in Japan

Understand typical private-treatment cost factors before comparing clinics.

Private treatment

ICL is usually private treatment in Japan and is generally not covered by Japanese public health insurance. Clinics set their own prices, so the amount can vary by lens type, astigmatism correction, examination package, surgeon, location, and aftercare policy.

Example price ranges

Published clinic prices commonly show a large range. For example, Eye Clinic Tokyo lists 730,000 yen for both eyes without astigmatism and 830,000 yen with astigmatism, while Ishinkai lists ICL prices from 330,000 yen per eye and 660,000 yen for both eyes without astigmatism. Treat these as examples, not a fixed market price.

Compare total cost

Compare what is included: counseling, suitability testing, detailed pre-surgery exams, blood tests, lens ordering, medication, day-after-surgery checks, long-term follow-up, and warranty or reoperation policies. The cheapest advertised price is not always the lowest total cost.

Deposits and cancellation rules

ICL lenses are often ordered for an individual patient. Some clinics require a deposit or charge examination fees before lens ordering. Ask what happens if you cancel after ordering, if the final exam shows you are not suitable, or if the clinic needs to replace or remove the lens later.

For foreign residents

If you do not have Japanese public health insurance, fees for unrelated disease testing or treatment may differ. Also confirm whether English or Chinese explanations are included in the standard price or require special appointment handling.
