AGA treatment cost in Japan

Understand self-pay pricing, monthly medication costs, online consultations, and total cost questions.

Usually self-pay

AGA treatment for cosmetic or hair-density goals is generally handled as self-pay care in Japan. Japanese public health insurance usually does not cover private AGA medication plans, so clinics set their own consultation, testing, and medication prices.

Monthly costs vary

Simple prevention plans using generic finasteride may be lower priced, while combination plans with dutasteride, minoxidil, topical medicine, injections, or supplements can become much more expensive. Compare the monthly cost after the first promotional month, not only the first visit price.

Check what is included

Ask whether the listed price includes medical consultation, medicine shipping, blood tests, follow-up, progress photography, translation support, and cancellation fees. Online consultations can be convenient, but side-effect management and follow-up rules should still be clear.

Budget for continuation

Because AGA treatment often continues for months or longer, a low entry price can be misleading. Calculate a six-month or twelve-month total before choosing a clinic, and confirm whether medicine can be prescribed before long travel outside Japan.
